The bike rider was born Neil Stuart Hodgson on November 20, 1973, in Burnley, Lancashire, England. He moved with his family to Nelson and Colne during his childhood.
Neil Hodgson's father, Mark Hodgson, inspired him to ride a bike at a young age. He was a road racer and raced for three or four seasons before stopping due to financial reasons. Still, Neil's dad loved bikes and arranged sponsors for his children by working two jobs and remortgaging the house.

Hodgson's elder brother, Carl Hodgson, first developed an interest in bikes. He taught his younger brother how to ride bikes at six. But, Neil's brother, Carl, quit racing in his teens.

Finally, the bike rider competed in American Superbike Championship in the 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009 seasons. Sadly, in the final year, he crashed his bike and ended up with a collapsed lung, a dislocated shoulder, and some rib injuries.
After recovery, the pro rider returned to racing in 2010. But, his previous shoulder injury forced him to announce his retirement. Although he had to cut his career short, Neil must have made notable earnings.
