However, very little is known about the couple with such a remarkable kid. So let's learn more about Curtis Waters' parents in this post, both personally and professionally.
Calum Scott Biography - British Singer-Songwriter
Proud Parents Of Two
Kalpana and Rishi have been married since 1996. Unfortunately, the details of their first encounter remain a mystery. Nonetheless, after many years of togetherness, the couple welcomed two sons. The Bastakoti duo became parents for the first time with the arrival of their eldest son, Abhinav Bastakoti, popularly known as Curtis Waters, on December 20, 1999, in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Along with their well-known son, the husband and wife became parents for the second time after they welcomed another son named Albert Bastakoti. Their youngest child graduated from Green Hope High School on June 16, 2022. He is in the Class of 2026 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Likewise, Rishi and Kalpana's son started studying media studies as a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2018. Furthermore, he was employed by Tropical Smoothie Cafe. As per one of his Facebook posts, he dropped out of college.

The couple moved to several countries when their eldest son was just a kid. The family first relocated to India, then to Germany when Curtis was four years old, then to Calgary, Alberta, when Curtis was ten. Finally, they moved to Cary, North Carolina, USA, in 2017, and he was 17 years old. The Bastakoti family traveled back to Nepal for three months when Curtis was 14 years old for a ceremony named Bratabanda, also known as Upanayana.
Another well-known younger singer who has prospered quickly because of her parents' continuous encouragement is Leonardo Aguilar. He is a singer from Mexico who was raised in a musical family.
Parents Didn't Understand His Love For Music At First
As mentioned earlier, Curtis Waters' parents raised him in several places. The shifting from one city to another was motivated by their educational aspirations. Ms. Bastakoti completed her master's while moving from one country to another, and Mr. Bastakoti was chasing Ph.D. scholarships. As of 2022, Kalpana has two master's degrees and focuses on Geographic Information Systems, and Rishi now holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Policy.
As both of Curtis Waters' parents were academics, they did not recognize his interest in music and instead focused on helping him succeed academically. The rapper claimed that because his family is immigrants from Nepal, they always desire the best for him in academics. So, at first, they could not truly understand his passion for music. In fact, the Kathamandu-born singer enjoyed singing secretly in his room.
Afterward, Waters developed a passion for making music, much like his musical heroes Frank Ocean, Ian Curtis, and Kanye West. He would spend hours each day in front of his laptop, extracting sounds from the internet to make music. He then boosted his efforts to upload songs online after his family relocated to North Carolina in 2017. Fans love Waters' music, and his career is rapidly growing.

Curtis Waters' Dad Is A Songwriter As Well
Despite both parents being into academics, one must wonder how Curtis got into music. Well, Curtis Waters' dad is a songwriter. He has given lyrics to many Nepalese songs like Thyau Timi Dil Ma and Ba Mero Ba. In addition to being a lyricist, Bastakoti was once a poet and has also written several Gazals.
Curtis' dad has been working in the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality water resources division as an Environmental Senior Specialist since 2018. Dr. Bastakoti has also worked as a Ph.D. candidate and Vanier Scholar at the Department of Geography, University of Calgary.
Although late, the married couple has been their son's main supporters in his singing career. The California-based artist has always dreamed about making a promising career in music, and his big break came in 2020 due to his hip-hop song Stunnin' in April 2020.
Curtis Waters' parents appear to be pleased with their lives. Their children are working hard to achieve greater success in their respective careers. We send the Bastakoti family our best wishes for the upcoming days.
