T-Mobile is the mobile communications subsidiary of the German telecommunication company Deutsche Telekom AG. The brand operates in several European countries and is also active in the United States. T-Mobile has more than 100 million subscribers in the US alone and is one of the largest mobile phone service provider.

T-Moblie was first founded on September 18, 1990, and has been under the German company Deutsche Telekom AG since 1999. It was previously named T-Mobile International AG & Co. KG but was later changed to T-Mobile International AG. The company was merged into the Deutsche Telekom AG in 2009.

The company was first based in Germany, but after Deutsche Telekom adopted the regional approach, T-Moblie is operated through various regional headquarters. However, the main headquarter for the company is in Bonn, Germany.

Company Operations

Having started its operations in Germany, T-Mobile first expanded to the European market and operated in countries like Croatia, Austria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, and Poland. In these countries, T-Mobile managed to garner millions of subscribers and continues to serve these customers. The company reportedly serves thirteen million customers in Poland and, on the other hand, had six million subscribers in the Czech Republic.

In addition to gaining immense success as a part of the European market, the telecommunication company has also expanded to the US, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Deutsche Telekom acquired VoiceStream Wireless in 2001 for $35 billion and then changed the name to T-Mobile USA Inc.

Deutsche Telekom is the largest shareholder, with it owning 43% share. Japanese holding company SoftBank Group owns a 24% share while the remaining 33% share is owned by the public. The T-Moblie US's headquarter is based in Bellevue, Washingon. It provides wireless voice and data services in the States. T-Mobile US's current CEO is Mike Sievert. He replaced John Legere in April 2020.

According to BizJournals, in 2018, the company had fifty-one thousand employees and generated more than $43 billion in revenue. And in 2020, it crossed the 100 million subscriber milestone and overcame AT&T to become the #2 wireless company in the US. T-Mobile's customers have continued to grow, and with celebrities like Tom Brady, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani appearing on commercials for the company, it might see a big influx of subscribers in the coming days.

Sponsorship And Investments

With the company grossing billions of dollars in revenue every year, it has invested in several sectors. The US subsidiary holds the naming rights to T-Mobile Park in Seattle as well as T-Mobile Arena in Nevada. Its parent company, Deutsche Telekom, has sponsored kits for German soccer clubs including Bayern Munich.

T-Mobile is also the official sponsor for the English professional soccer club West Bromwich Albion and has also sponsored clubs in the Scottish Premier League. In addition to this, T-Mobile US is also a sponsor of the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby.

Also, the company, especially its US subsidiary, has featured several sports personalities and Hollywood stars in the hope of luring more customers. And looking at the 2020 data, it seems to have succeeded in its mission.
