Best known for his 8-month stint as Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1's team principal, Mattiacci is also the former global chief brand officer and chief commercial officer at Faraday Future. He has also been the president and CEO of Ferrari North America and former CEO of Ferrari Asia Pacific.

Early Life, Family, and Education

Marco Mattiacci was born on December 8, 1970, in Rome, Lazio, Italy. Being a secretive person, Mattiacci has not shared any information about his parents or siblings. 

Talking about his education, Mattiacci studied economics at the Sapienza University of Rome. After developing a vivid sense of business, Mattiacci moved to the US for his further education. There, he attended Columbia University Business School in Manhattan, New York. Later, He was accepted into the INSEAD international executive program in Singapore. 

Career

At the age of 19, Mattiacci started working for the British luxury car brand Jaguar Cars. From 1989 to 1999, he deliberately worked his way up in the marketing department of the company. 

In 1999, Mattiacci joined Ferrari as an area sales manager for America and the Middle East. He was later promoted to manage the launch and sales of the Maserati brand to the North American Market. 

After being appointed as the president and CEO of Ferrari Asia Pacific in 2006, Mattiacci performed well in his role and was named president and CEO of Ferrari North America in 2010. While at his new position, he successfully raised Ferrari brand sales by 20% in the North, Central, and South American markets, which earned him the title of the Automotive Executive of the Year Award in 2012. 

In early 2014, Mattiacci was appointed as the managing director and team principal of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 racing team, replacing Stefano Domenicali after a poor start to the season. It seemed like he's making all the right decisions for the team when he convinced Sebastian Vettel to join Ferrari. However, it was not good enough for Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne, who called to drop Mattiacci for Maurizio Arrivabene in November 2014. Mattiacci's 8-month stint in Ferrari's F1 racing team made him a center of attention in the media over a couple of years.

In June 2016, Mattiacci was hired by Faraday Future to work as a global chief brand officer and chief commercial officer. Having a distinctive reputation in the international market, Mattiacci was given the role to lead branding, marketing, and sales aspects of the electric car company. However, due to the dire financial situation, Mattiacci and the company's then-vice president, Joerg Sommer, had to chip away from the Faradays Future's foundation in December. 

According to sources, Mattiacci is expected to join the British luxury sports car company Aston Martin in a growth and development consultancy role in 2021. However, a representative from Aston Martin stated, "Mr. Mattiacci is an advisor to Aston Martin Lagonda," but no further comment was added about the gossips.

As per CNBC, Ferrari had a market value of $9.8 billion when it went public in 2015, which skyrocketed to an astounding $30.1 billion in May 2020. Being a private person, Marco Mattiacci has indeed not shared much about his marriage, not even the dates. However, the couple has appeared at several sports events, including the Ferrari and The Cinema Society Screening of Rush at Chelsea Clearview Cinemas in 2013.
