Father Was A Bull Rider Too

Mason was born in August 1999, to American parents Chris Taylor and Angela Taylor in Oklahoma. Mason Taylor's father was a bull rider in his time and trained him when he was a kid. Chris picked up bull riding as he grew up very close to an indoor rodeo arena called Kow Bell in Mansfield. When he took a walk to a tournament one day, Chris decided to have a go and was hooked after that.

In contrast, Mason Taylor's mother was a secretary when she met his dad. The money's flow was not big in the family, since Chris was only an amateur level rider, while a secretary's salary was not that much back then. The family grew up poor, and Mason often mentions how he did not realize the financial trouble until his early teen years.

Interestingly, Taylor rode a sheep for the first time when he was only 18 months old. He later switched from sheep to calves and then to steers, and finally, open bulls and PBR bulls. He mentions how it is his upbringing and parents' support behind his smooth transition. Talking about the rodeo rider's education, he hasn't revealed which school or college he went to.

Shortage Of Money Was Disastrous

Mike Taylor's mom often says how passionate he was about the sport and used to prepare for a professional career, practicing on a bucking barrel. He used to tell his parents that he would be the world champion at the age of four. Ten years later, he successfully rode a PBR World Finals bull and made his father and mother proud. The young guy qualified for the PBR Tour ahead of the 2019 season and debuted in Reno on January 11 that year.

It shows how supportive his parents were from early on in his life. However, it was not the same case for Mason Taylor's sister, as she did not get to do what she wanted since the family put all their money into his career. They were so short of money that they only had $400 once, but had to pay $200 for the entry fee of an event. After paying that, the Taylor bunch could only afford a hotel room. It was all worth it since the talented athlete won both rounds and took home $1,200 to $1,300 prize money.

That was not the only case, the sportsman's parents had to scrounge up the last of their penny to pay for hotel rooms, gas, and entry fee. Thankfully, Mason would often win, and they returned home with some extra money too. He recalls those hard times and says that is the reason he works so hard so that he may be able to take care of his family now.
