Austin was born on January 24, 2000, to American parents in the south of Dallas in Wilmer. Austin Richardson's father and mother raised him on a farm that has been in the family since 1876. As such, he has always been around horses and cattle and discovered his interest in rodeo riding pretty quickly in such an environment.

Likewise, Austin Richardson's great-grandfather rode with the Hella Temple Black Horse Patrol. He also has a very close relationship with his grandmother Linda Richardson and often thanks his grandparents for their support and credits them for his success. Riding and racing have always been in the cowboy's family as his sister Kristin Richardson is also a barrel racer. Kristin is also studying at the Northeast Texas Community College and competes in the National Inter-Collegiate Rodeo Association.
