Margaret Ann Steffens was born to parents Carlos Steffens and Peggy Schnugg Steffens on June 4, 1993. Raised in Danville, California, alongside her three siblings, the athlete had a very lively childhood.

Growing up in the Steffens household surrounded by sports junkies must have been something. Even at a young age, Margaret loved watching sports and dreamed of being a soccer player someday. However, life had other plans for her.

Maggie Steffens' father, Carlos, is a former NCAA water polo champion. In addition, her sister, Jessica Steffens, is an Olympic athlete in water polo. So, it was only natural for Maggie to pick the sport.

Maggie is the youngest in the family, and her elder brother Charlie Steffens and sisters Jessica and Teresa Steffens are all into water polo. Although Teresa is not known for playing the sport, she sure does cheer on her siblings during their games. Even Charlie played the sport in their hometown. However, he did not make a career in the sport like his sisters.

The affinity for water polo indeed does run in Maggie Steffens' family. Her maternal uncle Peter Schnugg was a strong player in the sport. So much that he made it into the 1980 Olympics representing the USA, but sadly didn't bring home any medals.
