Barry's late brother-in-law was battling depression for more than six months and the family thought he was slowly recovering. However, after attending the former's belated birthday party, he died by suicide in 2018.

The snooker pro first played the game while living on Tulse Hill, London. He fell in love with snooker right after his first round at the local club.
