Shun Oguri was born in Kodaira, Tokyo, Japan, on 26 December 1982. He was the youngest among the three siblings in a family of five. Shun's father, Tetsuya Oguri, is a stage director, while his mother was a classical ballet teacher. Among his siblings, he has a sister and brother, both older than him. Shun's brother, Ryo Oguri, is an actor-turned-director.

Having a talented father and brother in the family, Shun Oguri started stage performances in early childhood. He showed the signs of a versatile performer from an early age and started in minor roles in his father and brother's projects. Nobody even guessed that the young boy was about to take the Japanese film industry by storm with his acting skills.

Career

At just thirteen years of age, Shun Oguri started his official acting career by debuting in the TV series 'Hachidai Shogun Yoshimune' in 1995. Since then, the actor has paved his way up by performing on over 100 projects in his career. His filmography career was further enhanced when he directed the comedy-drama 'Surely Someday' in 2010.

Oguri was first recognized after his recurring role on the TV series 'Great Teacher Onizuka' in 1998. At 18, he dropped out of his high school to play a deaf man on the TBS drama series 'Summer Snow.' However, it wasn't until 2005, Oguri had his breakthrough in the role 'Hanazawa Rui' in the famous drama 'Hana Yori Dango' also known as 'Boys Over Flowers,' which starred Mao Inoue and Jun Matsumoto.

He lent his voice for the character Alfons Heiderich in the Japanese version of Fullmetal Alchemist, the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa, released in 2005. In 2008, his voice was dubbed in the animated TV series 'Wangan Midnight' as 'Akio Asakura.' 

Exploring his talent, Oguri also worked as a director. His major directorial debut, 'Surely Someday,' was released nationwide in Japan on July 17, 2010. On March 14, 2012, Yu Yamada was pronounced as Shun Oguri's wife after years of dating each other. It is reported that the couple held their wedding reception in Hawaii on January 6th, 2013. Yamada gave birth to their first child on October 2, 2014, and their second child on January 20, 2017. After some years, the pair moved to Los Angeles, USA, where they welcomed their third child.
