Maria Molina is an avid meteorologist and weather reporter. The American meteorologist is currently working as a project scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Climate and Global Dynamics. She is also a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

Early Life

Maria Molina was born Maria Janeth Molina on April 7, 1987, in Nicaragua. She moved to the United States with her parents at a young age, where she was raised in Fort Lauderdale, South Florida. It is also reported that Maria has a younger brother, but lack of information has kept her brother and her parents a mystery.

At the age of 5, Molina experienced a Category 5 Hurricane Andrew, which hit her hometown in South Florida. After the storm, she told her parents that she wanted to be a meteorologist who would forecast dangerous weather to the public. Following her dream, she took relevant courses for her education in some of America's best-known universities. 

Education

Maria's ambitions made her pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology and minors in mathematics and communications at Florida State University, where she graduated cum laude in 2008. While at the university, she also completed the University Honors Program and the Honors in the Major Program.

After that, she enrolled in Columbia University, New York, in 2012 for her Master's degree. She successfully graduated with a Masters of Arts degree in Climate and Society in 2015 and set her eyes for a doctorate level.

In 2016, Maria had to leave Fox Channel for her Ph.D. degree. She earned her Ph.D. in the Earth and Ecosystem Science from Central Michigan University in 2019. She also holds the title of graduate research assistant at the CMU.

Career

Along with accomplishing such heights in her education, Molina has also built an impressive career in meteorology. She earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) License from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

Before being a professional meteorologist, Molina was a science teacher. She used to teach Earth and Space Science in North Broward Academy of Excellence in Fort Lauderdale for 7th-grade students. After a year in the teaching profession, she started her meteorology journey. 

Molina worked as a bilingual TV meteorologist for AccuWeather in State College, Pennsylvania, where she provided weather forecasts in English and Spanish. She also did internships at local cable stations and has worked with WTV-TV, WSC-TV, and AVY-TV.

In October 2010, Molina was appointed to work for Fox News Channel. Her on-air national weather forecasts in the channel were immensely applauded by her colleagues and people in the country. She also appeared on the Fox & Friends morning show, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports Networks, Fox News Radio, and Fox News Latino. Her final appearance on Fox News Channel was broadcasted on September 6, 2016. She left the channel to pursue her Ph.D. in Michigan. 

While pursuing her doctoral degree at Central Michigan University, she served as a part-time weather forecaster at WJBK Fox2 in the southeast Michigan region.

After completing her research experience in Frontier Development Lab and Advanced Study Program (ASP) Postdoctoral Fellowship, Molina was appointed as the full-time 'Project Scientist I' in the Climate and Global Dynamics Laboratory (CGD) at NCAR in August 2020.
